There are several standing committees in the VCTM organization and they all require
volunteers.
The Publications Committee serves as an
editorial panel for the Virginia Mathematics Teacher. This is a semi-annual
publication with fall and spring issues. The editor of the Journal is Dave
Albig. If you wish to serve on the this committee, you can contact Dr. Albig at P.
O. Box 6942, Radford University, Radford, VA 24142 or at dalbig@runet.edu.
If you wish to submit a manuscript, submit two copies, typed double spaced.
Manuscripts on disk are welcome. Drawings should be large, black line, camera ready,
on separate sheets, referenced in the text. Omit author names from the text.
Include a cover letter identifying author(s) with address and professional affiliation(s).
The Membership Committee works with
Co-executive Secretary Amy Merrihue in the promotion of new membership. Amy can be
contacted at amerrihue@wcs.k12.va.us.
The Teacher of the Year
Committee works to
promote mathematics education in the state of Virginia by recognizing
excellent teaching. The current chairperson is Brenda
Barrow.
The First Timers Conference Committee
selects a member from those who apply to receive the VCTM grant to attend a regional or
national conference for the first time.
The Scholarship Committee selects a rising
college senior as the recipient of the VCTM Scholarship. Ed Anderson currently
chairs this committee. He can be contacted at eanderson@nv.cc.va.us.
The Nominations Committee recruits a slate
of nominees for the available positions on the Executive Board. These offices
include President-Elect (elected annually, serving a one-year term as President-Elect,
one-year term as President, and one-year term as Past-President), Secretary (elected
bi-annually), Treasurer (elected bi-annually), NCTM Representative (elected bi-annually),
Elementary Representatives to the Board (two positions, elected bi-annually), Middle
School Representatives to the Board (two positions, elected bi-annually), Secondary
Representatives to the Board (two positions, elected bi-annually), Two-Year College
Representatives (two positions, elected bi-annually), Four-Year College Representatives
(two positions, elected bi-annually). The current chairperson is
Debbie Hutchens.
The Publicity Committee
(Public Relations Committee) works to support mathematics education in the state of Virginia by communicating the Council's policies,
positions, and concerns on issues related to mathematics education to
governmental agencies, school divisions, affiliate groups, professional
organizations, business and industry, the public, and other agencies. This
committee is
chaired by Pam Cropp.
